Annuities

An annuity is an income for life which takes effect when a pension is taken.

Many pensioners do not realise that they do not have to take the annuity offered by their pension provider, but can take the ‘open market option’ which gives them access to all the annuity providers in the market. This can lead to a significantly increased annuity. There are also higher rates for 'impaired life' (if you have a significant illness) or are a smoker.
